Veterans' Caucus |
Purpose |
NC Vets works to support Democratic candidates at all levels. In 2008, for example, it assisted the Hagan and Obama campaigns with veteran outreach across the state. The caucus also made public endorsements this year of selected candidates. It serves on an ongoing basis as an effective statewide communications network. Finally, NC Vets challenges the false and offensive stereotypes of Democrats as weak on defense, incompetent in national security, and even downright unpatriotic. The caucus makes clear that the American military is as diverse as America itself. |
NC Vets is open to all who serve or have served in the armed forces, past and present, and to their families. It now has almost 200 members, representing 47 of North Carolina's 100 counties. Caucus members include soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who have served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq and all points between. NC Vets is not an official part of the Democratic Party. You do not need to be a registered Democrat or a resident of North Carolina to join. |
